K.I.S.S.

 

I’m sure everyone is familiar with the old acronym, K.I.S.S. It’s been around a long time, and just in case you don’t know, it means keep it simple stupid.

Words to live by, in my humble opinion.

But recently, Jasper and his friends came up with a meaning that is more relatable for the things I write about, and that is: keep it simple spiritually.

Even better words to live by!

If you’ve been following this blog, then you know that for the last few weeks, I’ve been trying my best to avoid meditating, mostly because I’m stubborn as an old mule, and I just didn’t want to do it.

I’ve tried to rationalize my way around it by making up things I could do in place of it, I’ve lied to myself,(hardly a rare occurrence), and said I was so closely connected to Jasper that I didn’t see the need for it, and in general played the creative avoidance card as often as possible.

Little did I know that I had help in all my dissembling and delaying in the form of my subconscious. But more on that later.

So a few days ago, I got called out, (along with my friend Barb), by Jasper, Ella,(Barb’s guide), and an assembled multitude of their friends for talking the talk but not walking the walk. Imagine my surprise!

Well, not really. I knew I had a lot of “inner work” to do, but we all do, and we all will for as long as our earth incarnations last, so I didn’t think it was that big a deal.

Apparently, I was wrong again, also hardly a rare occurrence, according to Jasper. It is a very big deal.

As I said a few posts back, I was so consumed by finding Jasper a few years ago and increasing my connection to him that I was almost oblivious to the connection between my mind and my body, who I named Calvin.

I did meet Calvin a while ago in the person of my subconscious mind, but what I failed to realize at that time was that he not only held all my memories, emotions and old programs, he also was the one in charge of my autonomic nervous system, which is the part of the body that keeps everything running so you don’t have to think about making your heart beat 60 times a minute, or any of the other things that happen without our thinking about them.

Your body actually prefers that you don’t interfere with it’s automatic functioning. That’s where your old programs come into play. It knows how to make everything work, and it knows, from past experience how you expect everything to work. Herein lies the problem.

It knows that, just as an example, when you go to visit your in-laws, you are uncomfortable, so it starts prepping the old “fight-or-flight” response by increasing your heart rate and blood pressure, and because your emotions are telling your body that you are not happy, your subconscious supplies all the misery you’re expecting to feel.

How many of us realize we are the ones in charge of feeling that way? I didn’t. It seems like a natural response, but that’s because it is. Your subconscious holds a program that you put in there unknowingly that it plugs in when you’re facing an unpleasant experience that causes you to be moody and unhappy, because that’s the way you felt before, so the assumption is you will feel that way every time the same or a similar situation presents itself.

This is why your subconscious is so resistant to a change in your emotional responses. It knows what you’ve done in the past, it knows you didn’t die from whatever it was, and it isn’t interested in doing anything different because it isn’t sure you’re not going to die if you try something new.

It’s highly responsive to negativity because in the long ago, it had to keep you alive by making sure you responded properly to a scary noise. It always assumes the worst about a scary noise, because the one time it didn’t you or someone in your tribe was eaten by a sabre tooth tiger. That’s the place it’s coming from. So by keeping the programs in place that it knows keep you from dying, it’s doing it’s job.

As I was told, in not a nice way, I might add, by J et al, that the only way to get your subconscious to stop running those old programs is through meditation of some kind. By clearing the conscious mind of thoughts, you can hit the reset button on your subconscious and get it to at least try something new.

Is it still going to want to run the old stuff? Yes, until you can provide solid evidence that the new way not only is workable, but it’s not going to kill you.

One of the ways I saw Calvin when I thought he was solely in charge of my subconscious was in the form of the Hindu god Ganesh, the elephant with many arms. Back then he was offering me  a lot of old programs with them and holding back on changes. Now I see that he was not only doing that, but he also has his other hands on the controls of my emotions, so in order to change the way I respond to life scenarios, I have to convince him to let go of old programs AND the emotions that go with them.

Sound like an impossible task? Maybe, until you fully realize that you are in charge of not only your mind, but your whole body, which includes Calvin and his many fingers in many pies.

It can be done, friends and neighbors, and next time I’m going to start telling you how I’m managing.
